HEAVWEIGHT CHAMPION – SULTAN IBRAGIMOV

Introduction:

Born on 8th of March, 1975 in Tlyarata, Dagestan, Sultan Ibragimov is a qualified and well-known Russian heavyweight boxer of the Avar origin. The original name of Ibragimov is Sultanahmed Ibzagimov. Sultan is the present WBO (World Boxing Organization) Heavyweight Champion. By far till 23rd of April, 2006, Sultan was ranked number 9 in the WBA (World Boxing Association) and is placed on number 5 position in the IBF (International Boxing Federation).  Jeff Mayweather trains Sultan. Sultan is one of only five left handed heavyweight champions in the history of the game.  Chris Byrd, Michael Moorer, Ruslan Chagaev, and Corrie Sanders are other left hand heavyweight champions. This tough Avar origin boxer is expected to emerge as the most planned and tactical boxer in the future.

Career Achievements:

In the Summer Olympics of 2000, Sultan had won a silver medal in heavyweight boxing for Russia. In the European Heavyweight Championship, Tampere, Finland, Sultan was placed in the 2nd position in 2000. Next year in 2001, Sultan was placed at 3rd place at the Belfast Championship in Belfast (Northern Island).  Sultan manipulated his record to 19-0-1 after a tough 12 round IBF (International Boxing Federation) Heavyweight Title Eliminator match against Ray Austin, on 28th of July.  Sultan enhanced his stats to 21-0-1, after he thrashed Shannon Briggs and acquired the WBO (World Boxing Organization) heavyweight title on 2nd June, 2007 in Atlantic City. Sultan Ibragimov is scheduled to battle against Evander Holyfield for the WBO heavyweight title at Khodynka Arena, Moscow, Russia on 13th of October.
